LUIS: Yes, my Christian name. On my passport it says Luis Miguel Gallego
Basteri, born April 19, 1970 in Veracruz.
BRAVO: So, you are Mexican?
LUIS: My brother Alejandro (12) and I were born in Mexico, our youngest
brother Sergio (1) in Spain, where we also have a house, in Madrid. Because
my father Luis is Spanish and my mother Marcela comes from Italy, from
Tuscany.
BRAVO: You grew up with lots of languages?
LUIS: Yes. With my father I speak Spanish, with my mother Italian. Also, I
can speak a little Portuguese and English. To help me improve, Rebecca, my
English professor, always accompanies me on all the trips.
BRAVO: When was the last time you were in public school?

LUIS: Until I was 10 years old. For many years I attended in Mexico a
totally normal school. However, I left there on three occasions because I
was never a good student. Music interested me more. I also had, for example,
many conflicts with the teachers because I didn't want to participate in the
musical festivals that they presented in the school. They didn't understand
anything about music and I didn't want to get involved.
BRAVO: What happened after you left?
LUIS: It was fine, because when I was 11 I did my first record in Mexico,
"1+1=2." From that time I was instructed by private teachers, almost always
on the plane or in the hotel. I like above all geography; I have problems
with math. I realized that you need a good background for any profession,
also as a musician.
BRAVO: Do you collect anything?
LUIS: Girls.--that's just a joke. I collect records of all types of music,
rock and roll, samba, salsa and also classics like Beethoven and Mozart. In
my room in Mexico I have around 500 albums.

But when I look for something in
particular, guaranteed I don't find it. Organization is still not my strong
point.
BRAVO: Is the gold slave that you wear on your right arm a gift from your
girlfriend?
LUIS: No, I got it from my mother. I know a huge quantity of girls, but I
don't have time for a girlfriend, because I'm always away, even the two
weeks that I took of vacation this year in our house in Madrid.
BRAVO: What type of girl are you looking for?
LUIS: I don't have a special type, it's the same if she's a blonde or
brunette. What she possesses isn't important either. The main thing is that
she be nice.
BRAVO: What are your favorite clothes to wear?
LUIS: My favorite color is red, fire red, which goes very well with my
temperament.
BRAVO: Do you have some kind of idol?
LUIS: When I was less than 10 years old, I was inclined toward Elvis
Presley. Elvis is simply the king of rock and roll.

LUIS: Sí, mi nombre de pila. En el pasaporte dice Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, nacido el 19 de abril de 1970 en Veracruz.
BRAVO: ¿Entonces tu eres mexicano?
LUIS: Mi hermano Alejandro (12) y yo nacimos en México, nuestro hermano más joven Sergio (1) en España, donde nosotros también tenemos una casa, en Madrid. Porque mi padre Luis es español y mi madre Marcela procede de Italia, de la Toscana. BRAVO: ¿Creciste con muchos idiomas?
LUIS: Sí. Con mi padre hablo español, con mi madre italiano. Además, en parte puedo hablar portugués e inglés. A fin de mejorar, Rebeca, mi profesora de inglés, siempre me acompaña a todos los viajes. BRAVO: ¿Cuándo estuviste por última vez en una escuela pública?
LUIS: Hasta mis 10 años. Durante muchos años asistí en México a una escuela totalmente normal. Sin embargo, me salí de ella en tres ocasiones porque yo nunca fui un buen estudiante. La música me interesaba más. Yo tuve también por ejemplo muchos conflictos con los profesores, porque yo no quise participar en los festivales musicales que se presentaban en la escuela. Ellos no entendían nada de música y yo no quise jugar a sus monos. BRAVO: ¿Qué paso después ser despedido
LUIS: Eso se encontró muy bien, porque con 11 años yo hice en México mi primer disco "1+1=2". Desde entonces fui instruido por profesores privados, casí siempre en el avión o en el hotel. Me gusta sobre todo la geografía, en matemáticas tengo problemas. En tanto me di cuenta que se necesita de una buena formación para cualquier profesión, también como músico.
BRAVO: ¿Coleccionas alguna cosa?
LUIS: Chicas -ese fue solo un chiste-. Yo colecciono discos de todo tipo de música, rock and roll, samba, salsa y también clásica como Beethoven y Mozart. En mi cuarto en México tengo cerca de 500 albums. Pero cuando yo busco algo en especial, con garantía no lo encuentro. El orden no es todavía mi fuerte. BRAVO: ¿Es la esclava de oro que traes en el brazo derecho un regalo de tu novia?
LUIS: No, yo la recibí de mi madre. Yo conozco una gran cantidad de chicas, pero para una novia fija no tengo tiempo, porque siempre estoy fuera, hasta las dos semanas que yo tome de vacaciones en este año en nuestra casa de Madrid.
BRAVO: ¿Qué tipo de chica buscas?
LUIS: Yo no tengo un tipo en especial, igual si es rubia o morena. Lo que ella posea tampoco es importante. La cosa principal es que ella sea bonita.
BRAVO: ¿Qué ropa es tu favorita para ponerte?
LUIS: Mi color favorito es el rojo, rojo fuego, que va muy bien con mi temperamento.
BRAVO: ¿Tienes algún modelo de ídolo?
LUIS: Cuando todavía tenía menos de 10 años, me incliné por Elvis Presley. Elvis es sencillamente el rey del rock and roll.
